We harnessed data-driven insights to help the WNBA better understand and more effectively engage with its fan base and potential fans. By defining four key fan segments, we identified opportunities to connect with each group and potentially increase their involvement and engagement with the game. This approach informed the WNBA’s strategies and contributed to the development of the WNBA App built by Deloitte.
When we teamed up with the WNBA in 2020, we set out to help the league define its vision of positioning the WNBA as an innovative global leader in sports, supporting its stakeholders, inspiring the next generation, and driving business change. To make this vision a reality, we helped craft a dynamic strategy that includes a player-centric approach, optimizes operations, and uses next-gen marketing tactics to boost fan engagement. And the results speak for themselves. Over the past four seasons, the WNBA has seen historic growth in viewership, attendance, and fandom.
WNBA games are broadcast across different local, regional, national, and streaming platforms. This created inconsistent appearances and quality from broadcast to broadcast. Leveraging our experience across media rights, visual production, and production technology, we helped the WNBA develop a roadmap as it looked to elevate its production quality and consistency across markets with the aim to improve the viewing experience for fans.
